OMG:Two kinds burnt to ashes

Two kiddas identified as Elton Apedo, 5, and Elise Apedo, 3, have been burnt to death at Agormanya-Blotsi in the Lower Manya Krobo municipality of the Eastern Region. The incident reportedly occurred at about 9:30 pm on Tuesday.

The Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Fire Officer, DO III Daniel Ashi Boye,daily guide briefing , said there was a blackout in the area and so the mother of the kids, one Korkor, a nurse, lit a candle and left them (kids) in the room asleep. She was said to have gone to see the area's assemblyman so that they would call the officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to come and work on an electrical fault that had caused the power outage.
At that time, DO III Daniel Ashi Boye said, the father of the children, a police officer, had gone for night duty.
According to the Municipal Fire Officer, the candle kept on burning until it started consuming the belongings of the family in the single room, eventually burning the kids into ashes.
“Before the fire officers could reach the scene, everything in the room had been burnt to ashes, including the kids,” he asserted.
He said their mother, upon hearing the incident, rushed home only to see her kids trapped in the blaze but was helpless.
DO III Ashi Boye hinted that she sustained some injuries in an attempt to rescue her children and was admitted at the Agormanya St Martin’s Hospital for treatment, while the bodies had been deposited at the same facility waiting for autopsy.
Meanwhile, the Odumase Krobo police have commenced investigations into the incident.
